About the Delicatessen:
After fifteen years in Neve Tzedek, Merav Barzilay took her children on a road trip through New England & upstate New York. They rented an RV and spent most nights in National Parks, cooking their own meals from ingredients picked up at local farmers’ markets along the way. It was during this visit that Merav’s vision for the Delicatessen took shape.
She was inspired by the fast-casual dining options in New York City – particularly Whole Foods Market – where on-the-go guests could build their own healthy, filling & delicious meals and eat them in a pleasant and peaceful setting. She wondered if such a concept could exist in Israel. When her neighboring retailer closed down upon her return home, she took it as a sign; she signed to takeover the space and began bringing her vision to life.
Today the Delicatessen features a prepared food bar, bakery, shake counter and organic grocery, as well as shelves full of locally made goods and products. The gorgeous wooden & concrete interior has a large communal dining table, bar stools that gaze out onto the charming Neve Tzedek streets, and a sun-filled back patio full of bistro tables where guests can enjoy one of the local beers on tap.
